Emergency / Critical Messaging Test – Classroom Phones

On March 7th there will be an Emergency / Critical Notification test.  Public Affairs will be communicating information about the test, and also information to the campus on how faculty can “opt in” to receive text and phone messages in the event of an emergency.

Of most interest to faculty may be that, in this test and in a true life-threatening emergency, a message will be sent directly to the classroom phones. To get the emergency message, the phone must be answered.  When the system hears a human response (“hello”, etc.), the emergency message will play. Classroom phones cannot be accessed from outside the university, but can be used by the emergency system or by support services.   More information on this test, including the time, the emergency messages will be sent out by Public Affairs soon.
