Emergency Notification System (ENS)

In order to improve the safety of our students, staff and faculty, Sacramento State recently implemented a comprehensive Emergency Notification System (ENS). Our ENS automates delivery of urgent announcements to the campus community through targeted text messages, telephone calls and e-mail. The alerts would only be used in the event of an emergency that has threatened the campus community’s health and safety. Examples of such events would be a bomb threat, hazardous materials spills, criminal activity, flood or fire.

In the event of an actual emergency, Public Safety will first send ENS messages to first responders and emergency response staff via simultaneous phone calls, text messages, and e-mail sent across campus. Further phone calls, text messages, and e-mails may be sent to targeted groups in specific areas of campus to provide protective action recommendations.

Follow-up messages can also be sent, with more specific details of the event, safety procedures, and an all-clear message upon incident resolution. Any member of the campus community can also sign up to receive text messages to their personal phones in the event of a campus-wide emergency. We encourage all faculty and staff to register to receive such messages.
