Security Updates

It is important to apply all security updates and service packs in order to protect your computer from potential viruses and security threats.

Windows Security Updates

Start Internet Explorer and click on Tools -> Windows Update. Click on Scan for updates. Install all available Critical Updates and Service Packs to keep your computer up-to-date.

If you have Windows XP/2000, we recommend that you configure your computer for automatic updates.

Windows XP : Right click on My Computer -> then click Properties -> and Automatic Updates. Check the Keep my computer up to date option. Check the Automatically download updates option and pick a schedule.

Windows 2000 : Click on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel. Double click on Automatic Updates. Check the Keep my computer up to date option. Check the Automatically download updates option and pick a schedule.

Note: Make sure your computer is turned on during the scheduled update time.

Apple Security Updates

Mac OS X: Click on the "Apple" -> System Preferences. Click on Software Update -> Update Now. Follow the instructions to download any additional components required for the update. Once this is complete, it will open up the appropriate web page at apple.com from which you can download and install the software updates for your system.

Mac OS 9: Click on the "Apple" -> Control Panel -> Software Update. Click on Update Now and select all the updates in the Install Software window that comes up after the system checks for software updates. Click on Install to finish installing all the necessary updates for your system.

Security Updates Resource on the CSUS Softdist1 Server

This security updates resource contains the following items:

  1. Stinger AVERT tool from McAfee
  2. McAfee VirusScan 4.5.1 sp1, VirusScan 7.1, Virex 7 and Virex 6
  3. Latest DAT files for all versions of VirusScan clients
  4. Patches/Security updates for your operating system
  5. Type csus\username when prompted to login where "username" is your SacLink account name.
