Technology Learning Center Consultant


Position:: Student Assistant Level II
Starting Salary: $12.00 per hour

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Technology Resource Center(TLC) is a program under the IRT Service Center. The TLC is a central place on campus for faculty and staff to receive assistance in the creation of accessible course materials eLearning content, learn and use technology. The Technology Learning Center Consultant is part of the Service Center team and reports directly to the TLC Coordinator who oversees the TLC.  This student assistant position’s main duties involve assisting patrons with services and resources offered through the TLC.

TLC Consultant Responsibilities and Daily Tasks:

Upon hire, new TLC Consultant will be trained on each of the areas listed below.

  • Prompt arrival to assigned shifts and coverage of the TLC,
  • General software/equipment/services assistance for faculty and staff,
  • Provide excellent customer service when assisting users,
  • Participate in TLC Consultant Training as required for position (in person, peer-to-peer, online via SacCT),
  • Maintain daily sign-in information by ensuring visitors of TLC sign-in through sign-in station,
  • Assist faculty with creation of Accessible Instructional Materials,
  • Provide basic eLearning Materials Support using the campus learning management system, SacCT ,
  • Escalate tier 2 SacCT requests/questions  to the Academic Technology and Creative Services ATCS Department, who manage end user support and training for the  SacCT system,
  • Inform ATCS consultants of faculty/staff appointment arrivals and communicate any SacCT system support needs for faculty,
  • Assist faculty/staff with Captioning Self-Service process and escalate tier 2 requests to ATI Captioning Student Assistant and/or TLC Coordinator/Instructional Materials Specialist
  • Assist faculty and staff with digitization/conversion of  media content into various formats as applicable,
  • Assist patrons with media projects such as creation of Video tutorials using video equipment and software e.g. Camtasia Studio, Pinnacle Studio available  at TLC  Project Rooms,
  • Assist patrons with scanning of documents using Adobe Acrobat X and/or OmniPage Pro,
  • Create  documentation under the direction of the TLC Coordinator,
  • Prepare training lab for workshops/meetings by cleaning , organizing, turning on equipment,
  • Report  non-working equipment/software by use of Service-Now incident reporting system,
  • Clean, organize and maintain work environment and equipment at TLC main lab, training room, project rooms, and student work area,
  • Record usage statistics of TLC main lab and project rooms during shift, throughout the day,
  • Ability to explain and inform patrons of TLC usage rules/policies,
  • Run reports for usage and sign-in statistics using Access Database,
  • Periodic presentation of group workshops for students,
  • Stock TLC labs with lab supplies including printing paper, pens, notepads, staples etc.,
  • Attend TLC staff meetings,
  • Report any issues or questions to the TLC Coordinator or other appropriate Service Center Staff.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must possess excellent communication and people skills,
  • Ability to work well with various patrons including faculty, staff, students and high-level administrators,
  • Be dependable, prompt, and committed to their job,
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the English language, including grammatical structures, syntax, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation,
  • Must possess good writing skills,
  • Proficiency with multiple computer platforms and operating systems ( Windows OS XP/7/8, Mac OS)
  • Proficient in  Microsoft Office Applications: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access
  • Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat 9/X
  • Knowledge  of media players such as Real Player, QuickTime, and Windows Media Player
  • Has attention to detail and adheres to deadlines,
  • Is motivated, innovative, and shows initiative.

Additional Desired Qualifications

(Student Assistant would be trained on each of these areas regardless)

  • Knowledge of video capture and editing software:  Pinnacle Studio, Camtasia Studio,  iMovie, Adobe Captivate,
  • Knowledge of statistical programs: SPSS for windows and Statgraphics,
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices for content delivered online,
  • Basic knowledge of closed captioning for audio/visual content,
  • Experience with technical writing,
  • Knowledge on how to use Transcription and Dictation Software:  Dragon Naturally Speaking ,
  • HTML experience is a plus.
