Occasional System Slowdown
Date/Time: Feb. 14, 2013, 10:00am
The emergency changes recommended by the vendor to fix the bug in the NetApp were applied last night, and system restarted. We will be monitoring the system today to see if the changes have mitigated or eliminated the problem.
Date/Time: Feb. 13, 2013, 11:45am
The vendor has identified the issue causing slowdowns (latency) on our central file storage (SacFiles). There will be a fix in the next major release. Until then, they have asked that we apply emergency changes, which will require a restart of the system. This maintenance will take place from 12 midnight tonight, Wed. Feb. 13th through 6:00 am, Thu. Feb 14th. SacCT will be down during this time. Other systems may also go up and down, so we do not recommend usage of central systems during this period.
Date/Time: Feb. 11, 2013, 10:00am
We had another short slowdown event on Saturday about 10:40am. We continued to work with the vendor over the weekend. This is a priority 1 case with NetApp support and we are working with them on a set of recommendations based on the data from the anomalies experienced last week. We have been making the requested changes based on those recommendations. We have also taken the opportunity to implement changes to our systems to increase resiliency which has made them able to tolerate some of the latency issues depending on the severity of the event. Application owners continue to monitor their systems while we look for the root cause and the solution.
Date/Time: Feb. 8, 2013, 3:45pm
We have not experienced additional slowdown events since this morning. We have sent logs of the earlier events to our vendor, and they say they have the data they need, and are evaluating that data. However, they have not recommended any actions to us at this point. We will continue to monitor the situation over the weekend.
Date/Time: Feb. 8, 2013, 11:40am
The last campus system slowdown was at 8:30am and lasted for 90 seconds. Some students, faculty, and staff experienced a slowdown of their SacLink email. While most users email started functioning normally after 90 seconds, a few had to close and reopen their email application.
Last night at 9:43pm there was another instance of a system slowdown. The slowdown caused several databases to reboot, interfering with our student load to the data warehouse.
Right now we are working with our storage system vendor to see if we need to make changes in the related operating system.
Date/Time: Feb. 8, 2013, 11:10am
We are experiencing occasional slowdowns with campus systems. We believe the root of the problem is with our file storage system and are actively working with our SacFiles storage vendor. You may experience occasional slowdowns or stoppages while using email, SacCT, My Sac State or other campus applications. If problems occur, please try again in a few minutes. If the issue persists, please close and reopen the application. If you have specific questions, please call the IRT Service Desk at 916 278-7337. Updates will be provided on resolution of the problem as they become available. For other comments or questions, please use itfeedback@csus.edu.
