California Elections Data Archives
The California Elections Data Archive (CEDA) is a joint project of the Center for California Studies and the Institute for Social Research (ISR), both of California State University, Sacramento (CSUS) and the Office of the California Secretary of State. The purpose of CEDA is to provide researchers, citizens, public agencies and other interested parties with a single repository of local election data. CEDA summarizes candidate and ballot measure results for county, city, community college and school district elections in over 6,000 jurisdictions throughout California.
ISR collects annual election results directly from the counties, cataloguing ballot measures by type (charter amendment, bond measure, initiative, etc.) and topic (taxes, education, public safety, governance, etc.), reproducing the text and summarizing vote totals by county. Candidates for county and city offices as well as school boards are listed by office within county in tables giving incumbency status, ballot designation, vote totals and percent of votes cast.
Starting in 1995, three separate reports have been published annually. One summarizes candidate and ballot measure information for county elections. Another covers city elections, and the third, community college and school district elections. Copies of these reports may be ordered from the Elections Division of the Secretary of State's office by calling (916) 657-2166.
In order to facilitate use of the archive for research purposes ISR is placing the reports' tables, a written summary of results and trends, and the raw data on this web site. In the table below is the list of files that may be downloaded.
