The California Elections Data Archive (CEDA) is prepared for the California Secretary of State as a joint project with the Center for California Studies (1995-2011)
UPDATES

  • UPDATE 5-12-2010

    • Measures for 1995-2000 were re-coded to be consistent with coding for 2001-2010. There is now one codebook for all the years. The files still have the original coding in a separate variable.

      Runoff contests were coded with an alternate outcome. This allows researchers to exclude these candidates when calculating totals, so that these candidates are not double counted or incorrectly counted as win/loss.

      Multi-county school district measures and contests were recalculated to correctly identify win/loss. Files still have vote totals specific for each county, additional variables list multi-county totals.


      Retained/Added additional variables for use in analysis including REQ, Rvote, typerec, topicrec, Raceid, vote#, Num_Inc, Sumvote (see codebook for full list of variables and definitions).

  • UPDATE 7-12-2011

    • Added additional variables that uniquely identify races, candidates and measures both within a single county and across multiple counties. Also included a dicotomous variable indicating whether a race or measure is multi-county. The codebook has been updated with further details on these additions.
