| I am an attorney and am updating my Russian.
While I was at it I wanted to get back into Radio. My history is as follows:
1. DJ: In the early 80's I was the only DJ playing anything
remotely resembling alternative rock on the radio in Hawaii. It did catch
on but I can truthfully say that I was there first. My friday night punk
show was it for at least 6 months until the other dj's at the college
station caught on, the commercial stations never did. I also did an alternative
jazz show which today we would call "new age" but then we called
it "space jazz". But it was the same thing. I also did
everything in between as this was a college station and we aired every
kind of music. Thus my knowledge of music is broad. I was a DJ for almost
5 years.
2. Music Director: My job was to interact with the local record representatives
and basically beg records off of them as college radio is not big on the
ratings system. I can say that I was very successful with that. I made
good friends with many of the reps. I was Music Director for almost 3
years.
3. Program Director. My job was to see that various programs were aired
and various tapes were placed out on time. This was also a station management
position. I only had this position for about 4 months as a stopgap because
of personal problems with other members of the station.
4. Live Director: I ran an on live on air broadcast program
where I booked the talent, then set them up, and nterviewed them. I had
the assistance of one engineer. I booked everything from solo guitar acts
to full on rock bands. I did this for about 2 years.
5. Concert Director: I also supervised a 4,000 seat amphitheater where
we had concerts of every kind, from jazz to hard rock. My job was to be
the liaison between the promoter and the university which owned the amphitheater.
Also, when it came time for the show, I was the supervisor between the
security and the promoter and the various
University people. This was Andrews Amphitheater in Manoa. I did this
for almost 3 years. There was also a smaller venue on campus where we
did a few shows, A Flock of Seagulls, for example. This was my favorite
job.
