Lauren Alef, Laguna Blanca High School - 9th grade
Every day I drive past this vineyard, and each day it looks slightly different. This is in Santa Ynez Valley, where one can always see the seasons changing. In the fall, the leaves on the vines are reds, browns, and oranges. When I took this picture, it was on an average day during the transition from winter to spring. In Santa Barbara (30 minutes away), where I go to school, beaches are ubiquitous and the weather is almost always beautiful and sunny. However, it's hard to see any significant seasonal change. I feel very lucky to be able to live between two very different Paradises on a day-to-day basis. Vineyards are a momentous aspect that characterizes Santa Ynez. They also represent the history of California and how agriculture was essentially the foundation of it. California contains many diverse areas, and my picture embodies the beauty of just one of these places.
