Religion at Public Schools: Free Speech or Public Sponsorship of Religious Beliefs? - May 3, 2001

School gatherings such as football games and graduation ceremonies have long incorporated Christian prayer. But recent court decisions have determined that prayer at school events violates the rights of those who are not members of a particular religion.  Further controversy exists with religious-based clubs on school campuses.  To what extent should the separation of church and state be upheld?  What about students’ Constitutional rights to religious freedom?
