Building a Strong Electorate: High Tech Solutions to Low Participation - October 26, 2000

Todayís young people are voting at rates far lower than in the past.  In the 1996 general election, just 32 percent of 18 to 24-year-olds voted, and in the 1998 midterm election the number dropped to 17 percent.  Why arenít young people voting and what can be done to curb this trend? Will the development of high-tech voting motivate more young people to participate?  What can parents and teachers do to revive interest in voting in the 21st Century?
