Community Events & Information

The Cesar Chavez Community Service Day will be on March 20, 2009 from 8:00am-3:30pm. The theme of the event is “The Struggle Continues.” The objectives of the event are to instill in students the desire to work toward social justice and the prosperity of the community, to create awareness of the current struggles and injustices of farm workers, and to apply Cesar Chavez’s legacy to use educational achievement for the betterment of the community. The goals of the event are to connect students to the communities in need and to involve students with community organizations.

We will be having guest speakers sharing their experience working in the fields and the importance of getting involved. Students will be placed in community organizations’ sites to serve for the day. There will be tabling sections with community organizations so that students can get involved in. The event will conclude with a luncheon barbeque at the ASI Aquatic Center.
