SAT Subject Tests Description
SAT II / SAT Subject Tests, produced by the College Board, are standardized tests given on 20 separate subjects. The SAT Subject Tests are designed to display students' comprehension in specific subjects. All SAT Subject Tests take a single hour to complete but some subject tests have special requirements for equipment. The Sat Subject Tests are available 6 times on the same dates(except for March 1st) and at the same test centers as the SAT Reasoning Tests. They are scored on a scale between 200 to 800 points. Registration and Fees Registration for the SAT Subject Tests may done the same way as the SAT Reasoning Test, mailed or done online. The basic registration fee is $20.00 with an additional $20.00 per language test with listening or $8.00 per non-listening subject tests (students may take up to 3 tests on a test day). For a full listing of fees for elective services please visit College Board 2007-2008 Fees.Fee Waivers for the SAT Subjects pay for the registration fee and up to 3 subject Tests. Generally fee waivers may not used after regular registration deadlines. Students that miss the first deadline to take the exam on a specific date, during the late registration period the fee is an additional $22. The last option of Standby Testing does not have guaranteed seating and requires an additional $37 on top of the original costs to take the SAT Subject tests.
However students can not take the SAT Reasoning Test and a SAT Subject Test on the same day and not every subject test is available each test day. But students may take up to 3 subjects test on the same test day; if students take fewer, they may leave after their final test. Students may also choose to exchange their test choices (other than to a listening test) on the test day. Many universities use SAT Subject Test scores to evaluate applicants for enrollment. The University of California system requires applicants to submit 2 different subjects tests to be admitted to the university. Students may use this Eligibility Index [PDF] to conceive how the University of California would interpret their scores. The California State University does not request SAT subject test scores to apply, but students should still check the policy for all universities to which they are applying, to understand what effect submitting SAT Subject Tests scores will have.
*** The SAT Reasoning Test is available on every test day that the SAT Subject Tests can be taken *** |
