ASSISTANT DIRECTOR (Academic Coordinator) INSTITUTE OF URBAN AND REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Work with Director of Institute of Urban and Regional Development, University of California Berkeley. Create, develop and implement a variety of collaborative initiatives involving faculty, students, public agencies, non-profit, business and community leaders in policy research, planning, design, community development. Includes the University-Oakland Metropolitan Forum, a nationally recognized university-community partnership in operation for over a decade; a newly formed alliance with the City of Berkeley; and a variety of regional and state projects. Develop working relationships with faculty and community leaders; identify new directions for IURD; explore avenues for funding, prepare grant proposals; design and manage research and collaborative projects; supervise graduate student researchers; conduct research, analyses, and evaluations; prepare reports, articles; make presentations; negotiate contracts.

Qualifications:
Experience and demonstrable skill in research design and management, fundraising and community building/outreach.
Familiarity with the workings of universities, public agencies, and non-profit.
Desirable analytic specializations: urban economic development, survey research, program evaluation, indicator design, housing, human services.
Excellent writing and communication skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, students, community leaders, public officials.
Creative problem-solving skills; ability to work collaboratively with others to develop, fund, implement initiatives.
Professional or advanced degree in planning, public administration, public policy, social welfare or related field required, although substantial experience may be a substitute.
Knowledge of the Bay Area, particularly Oakland, highly desirable.

People with many, though not all, qualifications or experience should nonetheless apply.

Pay commensurate with experience and other qualifications.

Initial appointments made on an annual basis; reappointment subject to funding and performance.
