Pinole Redevelopment Agency
Community Development Department
Redevelopment Internship

The City of Pinole Redevelopment Agency invites applicants for two Redevelopment Intern positions in the Community Development Department. The City is seeking graduate student interns to provide assistance with a range of redevelopment projects. The following programs and projects are available for participation and/or development. The internships are traditionally part-time during the school year.

PROGRESS, Agency Newsletter
Manage the Agency's bi-annual newsletter that is produced in cooperation with the local high school.

New Development
Provide assistance to various development projects throughout the City, including a proposed downtown mixed-use building and a proposed affordable housing complex.

Community Clean-Up/Beautification
Assist with programs that utilize local community groups to remove blight from the Redevelopment Project Area.

Marketing/Events
Help develop and implement marketing programs and special events and promotions for the historic Old Town area. Past activities have included a "Shop Old Town" advertising campaign, "Fall in Love with Old Town" contest, and "Taste of Old Town" event.

Residential Rehabilitation Program and Commercial Rehabilitation Program
Assist with allocating loans and grants for the improvement of single family homes, apartments, and commercial structures throughout the Redevelopment Project Area; assist with loan portfolio management of the $2.1 million invested by the Agency to date.

First Time Home Buyers
Assist with processing loans to low and moderate income households in the first time purchase of a home.

Youth Programs
Manage projects that involve local youth in evening activities and other beneficial programs.

The City of Pinole has worked with previous interns on professional reports and master's theses; many of the City's projects are suitable for development as academic projects. City interns work under minimal supervision, present their own staff reports to the Planning Commission and City Council, and gain valuable experience in project management and redevelopment practice Previous interns have gone onto full-time employment with, among other agencies, the City of Pleasanton, City of Oakland, City of San Jose, and City of Pinole.

The City of Pinole, population 18,000, is located on San Pablo Bay, 15 minutes from Berkeley and 30 minutes from San Francisco. Pinole's Redevelopment Agency has an annual budget of $4.5 million.

Salary: $12-14/hour, DOQ

Hours: 16-20 hours (flex)/week through Spring 2000

PROJECTS COORDINATOR

(MENTAL HEALTH DIVISION)

The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Department of Health and Human Services are announcing a recruitment for the position of Health and Human Services Projects Coordinator. The current vacancy is full-time with the Division of Community Mental Health Services located at 250 Bon Air Road, Greenbrae. The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and all future vacancies which may occur in the Mental Health Division. Eligible lists remain active for a minimum of six (6) months.

Tentative Exam Schedule:
Depending on the number of qualified candidates, a supplemental application screening may e used to determine which candidates will be invited to the next examination step.

Oral Interview Examination: September 21, 1999

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates and is responsible for implementation of special projects such as development of requests for proposal;
  • Develops methods for reporting/data collection including development of forms, instructions, procedures and implementation of the process for revenue enhancement projects, i.e. Medi-Cal Administrative Activities, SB 909 Mandated Cost Claiming, Healthy Families, CMSP;
  • Provides extensive staff support for proposal development and grant writing, including research and analysis of information;
  • Develops methods and procedures and is responsible for implementation of evaluation activities, such as performance outcome reporting and other data management projects.

Employment Standards:
Education and experience equivalent to three years work in community or social planning in a health and human service agency, one year of which was in a program providing administrative or analytic services directly related to the Health and Human Services' Division of Mental Health and which included responsibility for program planning, monitoring and evaluation. A Master's degree in social work, public health, mental health, public administration or a closely related field is highly desirable.

License:
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving history as obtained from your state's Department of Motor Vehicles. Candidates who do not possess a CDL/driving history but qualify under ADA my request reasonable accommodation in lieu of this requirement.

Applicants must attach a copy of a driving history printout from the Department of Motor Vehicles issued within the last six months with their application in order to be considered.

 

Special Requirements:
Attendance at meetings or activities which are occasionally off-site and/or outside of regularly scheduled hours.
