FACULTYTed Lascher's (PPA) book entitled "The Politics of Automobile Insurance Reform" was published in August by Georgetown University Press. Department Chair Robert Waste served over the Spring and Summer as Chair of the City of Sacramento Campaign Reform Committee. The Committee finished their hearings in August, and will be submitting a report to the Council and Mayor, "Campaign Reform in Sacramento," drafted by Professor Waste, in late August 1999. Dr. Waste also recently completed a chapter on "Urban Development Policy," for a forthcoming book, THE HANDBOOK OF SOCIAL POLICY (Newbury Park, CA: Sage Publications) edited by James Midgley, Martin Tracy and Michelle Livermore; and served as a consultant to the Sacramento County Department of Human Assistance on homeless issues and strategic planning. Rob Wassmer, public policy and administration, acted as organizer and moderator of session on "Linking Academics to State Policy Formation: Two Models Used in California" at the seventh annual Links Conference in Sacramento on April 28. The conference was put on by the Center for California Studies and is held annually at a different state capital each year. Wassmer, who is the Director of the system-wide CSU Faculty Research Fellows Program, offered his own observations on the success that the program has had in connecting the California State Assembly, Senate, and Governor's Office with policy-orientated academic researchers throughout the California State University System.
