Cristy Jensen (PPA Professor) has completed the first phase of work on welfare
reform implementation at the California state and county level. She chaired
a panel discussion on Social Service Implementation at the 6th Annual
University LINKS Conference in Boston last week in which she discussed
her research on welfare reform implementation as part of the State Capacity
Project of the Rockefeller Institute. The LINKS Conference, initiated
at CSUS in 1992, brings together public universities in state capitals
and state level policy makers to talk about joint opportunities for teaching/learning,
research and service. She will leave Sacramento on May 19 to deliver a
series of lectures and workshops on intergovernmental policy in the US
and particularly welfare reform at the Far Eastern State Technical University

to assist the Russian faculty in developing curriculum in PPA.

of the American Political Science Association in Boston this September.

Staff Services Analyst
The Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education, which is
part of the Department of Consumer Affairs, is charged with regulating
the proprietary degree-granting institutions and vocational schools in

The new Bureau is facing a significant backlog of workload - and they
anticipate hiring several new temporary staff to help review transactions
and correspondence. Many of the positions are at the Staff Services Analyst
level (this exam is available on-line through the State Personnel Board
web page). For more information, you can call Ms. Pamela Martin at BPPVE
