DIRECTOR'S CORNER Speaking of Halloween
and scary, we are into our second month of the Fall semester already!
Wow, this semester is moving past at warp speed. Remember, now is a good
time to nail down any topics and research needs for your final class projects
and term papers. It's never too early to start thinking about that big
paper or term project now, before end of the semester panic sets in and
impacts on your normal high quality way of thinking about public policy
and international affairs. If you need suggestions, talk with your classmates,
your professors or give me a call at 278-4944 (email is wasterj@csus.edu).
Speaking of "high quality" let me brag a bit. Professor Nancy Shulock
of the PPA Department just won the highly prestigious Vernon Prize from
the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM). APPAM
awards this prize for the finest article in public policy in the past
year published in their journal, the leading scholarly journal of policy
analysis and management in the United States. Nancy's article, "The Paradox
of Policy Analysis: If It is Not Used Who Do We Produce So Much Of It?"
is a great, and in some senses a greatly ironic, read. I recommend it
highly as the PPA/IA "article of the month"! Congratulations to Nancy
for her well-deserved national scholarly honor, and - in advance - to
our numerous PPA & IA students who are going to benefit from reading and
reflecting on Nancy's arguments in the prize-winning article. Happy Halloween
to all, and remember, start now on detailed thinking and planning for
your big end-of-the-semester term papers and projects….
