ANNOUNCEMENTS

In her role as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, and staff to the Council for University Planning, (CUP) Nancy Shulock would like to notify students and faculty of the opportunity to conduct studies that have been identified by the Council as priority issues for which the Council needs more information. A very brief description of these studies can be found at the CUP web site: http://www.csus.edu/cup/planning/indepth.htm

While faculty directing the first three studies would receive some form of compensation, the student projects are not to be remunerated, but are suggested in the hope that students may find one of the projects to be a suitable topic for a course research paper or thesis/project. Please contact Nancy at x 7249 or nshulock@csus.edu if you would like more information about these projects.

Deborah Franklin, PPA student, was hired by the Legislative Analyst's Office as a student intern for the Spring 1999 semester. Nancy Shulock, who worked there in the past, was instrumental in helping her obtain this position. She is the first from our PPA program to intern there. Hopefully, she won't be the last!

The SSRIC has developed a very interesting Web site related to social science databases/teaching of statistics, etc. One of the most interesting parts is a glossary of statistical terms. Check it out (recognizing that it's a work in progress); the hope is that it will be a good place for students to go who have questions about statistical terms. There's a place to add any terms you might think need to beincluded in the list. The URL: http://www.csubak.edu/ssric/glossary.htm
