The California Budget Project
Part-Time Position Available Graduate Assistant
The California Budget Project (CBP) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization
that conducts research and analysis on a range of state tax and budget
issues, with a particular focus on issues affecting low and middle income
Californians. CBP's analyses span a range of issues including the adequacy
of the state and local government revenue structures, welfare reform and
health, labor market policies and supports for the working poor, education
finance, and the effectiveness of tax expenditures and incentives.
The CBP seeks to hire a Graduate Assistant to examine state administrative
health data in an effort to understand the impacts of policy decisions
associated with welfare reform in California. Specifically, the Graduate
Assistant will analyze changes over time in Medi-Cal caseloads in California's
58 counties, focusing on changes in the caseload of families and children
in the context of welfare reform.
The Graduate Assistant's responsibilities include:
- Analyze state administrative data on Medical
- Submit results in an understandable format and timely manner.
- Assist with policy analysis and report writing.
Required Skills
Proficiency in Excel. Experience with SPSS and the ability to interpret
results of data runs in a clear fashion would be especially useful.
Ability to write clearly.
Time Frame:
Now through April. Full-time summer internship a possibility.
Time Commitment: 10 to 15 hours per week.
Compensation: $16/hour.
The Graduate Assistant reports to the Welfare Reform Policy Monitoring
Project Director.

" I am looking for an individual to assist the Little Hoover Commission,
on a short-term basis, with its youth crime and violence prevention project.
Tasks include gathering and helping to assess existing juvenile crime
data and compiling information on state agency administered youth violence
prevention programs.
"The individual should have good research and analytical skills
and, preferably, background in criminal justice and/or prevention. We
would like to employ a graduate student intern. We would also consider
a short-term interagency agreement for a current state employee -- student
intern or other."
