DIRECTOR'S CORNER

Hello All!

This is the last Director's Corner I will be contributing. For those of you who don't already know, I am stepping down as Chair. I have immensely enjoyed serving as your department Chair for the last four years. Though, I must admit, I'm looking forward to spending more time in the classroom and on my research! On May 25, 2001, my esteemed colleague and friend, Ted Lascher, will take over as the Public Policy and Administration Department Chair. Ted is a highly respected member of our campus community. He is known for his professionalism, international scholarly contributions, teaching skills, university governance, friendly manner, good sense of humor, and, of course, his characteristic laugh. I wish him all my best, and am confident that he will do well. Ted's office is in Tahoe Hall, room 3035. He can be reached at 916/278-4864 or tedl@csus.edu.

If you know anyone who plans to apply to the PPA program, but has not yet turned in an application, please tell them that it is not yet too late. The previously stated application deadline for Fall 2001 admission has passed. However, we will continue to accept applications and consider admitting applicants for Fall 2001 on a space available basis.

Here are some reminders for you...

  • The printed schedule of classes for 2001-2002 is available for purchase at the Hornet bookstore. I strongly encourage you all to purchase a copy. The schedule includes a calendar of deadlines, fee information, final exam schedule, and other information that is not easily accessible on the web.
  • The thesis/project deadline is Friday, May 25, 2001 for spring graduation. That is the deadline for turning it into Grad Studies. Please get them signed off well in advance of the 25th.
  • Commencement this year is Friday, May 25 at 4:30 p.m. at Arco Arena (participants should be there no later than 4:00 p.m.). Students in the MPPA program who will be participating must sign up at the SSIS Dean's Office, Amador Hall, Room 255, 916/278-6504. Gowns and hoods may be purchased from the ASI Business Office (University Union, 3rd Floor).
  • CASPER REGISTRATION for Fall 2001 will be in July. Please register for classes early. Students who do late registration (a.k.a. Casper Plus) cannot be guaranteed a seat in desired classes -- or that classes won't be canceled due to low enrollment.

Don't forget to click through the rest of this month's Communicator. The Career Opportunities page and the Scholarships page are of particular interest.

I want to thank you for four great years as your department chair and wish you good luck on your final exams and projects!
