DIRECTOR'S CORNER
Greetings to our new students and welcome back to our returning students! We're looking forward to an outstanding year.

As many of you know by now, the entering class is the largest in the history of the program. This speaks well of our graduate program's growing reputation.

I'd like to offer a few reminders that should help make your semester a little easier.

  • Please remember to sign up for a SacLink account -- or reactivate your account if you can't remember your password. As the University delivers more and more information in electronic form, you will need to rely more heavily on your SacLink account to get by (let's just hope the power doesn't go out). Go to the University Computing & Communications Services website for information about your account.

  • Sign up for the PPA Bulletin, our department listproc. Go here for more information.

  • PPA students starting their second year must contact the department office about getting some academic advising. In fact, anyone who wishes to receive academic advising should contact the department office.

I'm pleased to report that our department is back at full strength this year. Cristy Jensen and Rob Wassmer have returned from sabbaticals. Nancy Shulock has assumed a new administrative position as Executive Director of the Institute for Higher Education Policy and Administration, but will continue to teach PPA 230 for us. Peter Detwiler is again offering his land use elective course in the fall and Tim Hodson will be offering his legislative politics elective in the spring. Bob Waste and I essentially have swapped positions, with Bob becoming academic advisor for the Executive Fellows while I have assumed the department chair role.

And speaking of being a new department chair, I would welcome any thoughts and suggestions you might have for improving the program. Write or call me (916) 278-4864 when it's convenient.

Go Monarchs! Go Kings! Go Hornets! And best wishes for the coming year.

Ted Lascher
PPA Department Chair
