ANNOUNCEMENTS 

The 15th annual CSU Student Research Competition
All currently registered undergraduate and graduate students are eligible. Alumni/alumnae who received their degrees in spring, summer or fall 2000 are also eligible. CSUS local competition is Saturday, March 3, 2001. The submission deadline is Monday, February 26, 2001. For entry forms or answers to Competion-related questions*, contact your school dean, your department chair or the Office of Research & Sponsored Projects (2nd floor, River Front Center, X87381), or go to the link below. Up to ten CSUS student papers will be submitted to the Statewide Student Research Competition at San Jose State University, to be held on April 27 and 28, 2001.

The 7th Annual California Journalism Awards & Conference
March 17, 2001
at the Alumni Center, CSU Sacramento
Panels from 3:30 to 6:15 followed by no-host reception and awards dinner (7:00-9:00). Panels include: Shield of Sieve: California's Shield Law in 2001; and From East to West: How the National News Media Views California. Dinner speaker will be Andrew Lam of NPR. American Society for Public Administration (ASPA)

Call for Papers
The Henry B. Gonzalez Award The Financial Markets Center sponsors an annual contest on the subject of central bank reform. Entries may be sweeping in scope or focused on a specific aspect of the Fed’s structure, governance, operations, staffing, culture or statutory authority. WRITING PROBLEMS PLAGUING YOU?
The CSUS Writing Center can help! All registered CSUS Students may schedule appointments with The Writing Center tutors free of charge. Students may seek assistance with papers for any class, in any department, or for preparation for writing exams. The Writing Center is located in Calaveras Hall room 128. Writer's block: A Support Group for Thesis Students
Facilitated by Francine Toder, Ph.D. Psychologist and Author
What are the thoughts, emotions and/or behaviors that interfere with beginning or completing your thesis? This group will help you to identify and challenge your discomfort at any phase where blocks occur from topic selection to the final draft. Learn to recognize your beliefs and attitudes about writing that interfere with the process. Identify your personal or interpersonal struggles. Try out new skills and strategies.

Those interested in contemporary public policy issues should check the list of working papers available at the Masters Program in Public Policy and Administration Web Site (www.csus.edu/mppa/content.htm).
