FACULTY

Rob Wassmer, Public Policy and Administration, raveled to Baltimore to present his research paper on "Retail Sprawl, Urban Containment, and the Fiscalization of Land Use in the Western United States" at the 94th Annual Conference of the National Tax Association. The paper is available at www.csus.edu/indiv/w/wassmerr.

Rob Wassmer also had his popular press article "Defining Sprawl: An Academic Look at Economic Tradeoffs Associated with Growth" published in the November 2001 edition of "Comstock's Business" magazine. The article looks at the nearly 50 percent increase in population growth anticipated for the Sacramento Region over the next 20 years, the benefits and costs it will bring, and the "New Urbanist" way of making the most of it.

Rob Wassmer participated in a roundtable discussion on "Local Verses Regional Government Control" with four community and business leaders before an audience of about 200 retail developers at the Alliance Meeting of the International Council of Shopping Centers in Sacramento on November 15.
