Annual Frank Figueroa Memorial Scholarship
MPPA students are encouraged to apply for the Annual Frank Figueroa Memorial
Scholarship in Public Administration. This is a $1000 scholarship for
the academic year 2000-2001. All of our currently enrolled PPA students
are eligible.

Fulbright Scholarships
Office of Global Education
Students (especially those with 3.4+ gpa's) are encouraged to attend a
workshop on how to apply for Fulbright Scholarships for overseas study
and research.
These workshops will be held on:
- Monday, April 30, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
- Thursday, May 3, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, May 9, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
- Tuesday, May 15, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Students must sign up for the workshops by calling (916) 278-6686.
Workshops without enrollments will be cancelled. Each year some deserving
CSUS students have the opportunity to go abroad through such scholarships.

The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) is accepting
nominations for the 2001 Edwin O. Stene Scholarship Program. Read the

California Grassroots Organizing School
Fight for Social and Economic Justice!
Learn Grassroots Organizing!
The California Grassroots Organizing School is hiring community organizers
for a paid internship!
CGOS is building a national movement for social and economic justice by
organizing low and moderate income communities, immigrants, and communities
of color for power and social change. CGOS is working in the trenches
with grassroots organizations throughout northern California and across
the United States.
In recent years, participating organizations have:
* helped win living wage campaigns in Oakland & San Jose
* fought for the rights of tenants in San Jose, Oakland, & Sacramento
* won countless campaigns for racial justice, including bank redlining,
racially unequal schools, etc...
* fought to raise the California minimum wage to $8 and to end "predatory
lending"
Duties: Participating interns work at the community level to build grassroots social justice organizations. This process involves doorknocking, house meetings, phone banks, mailings, mass meetings, and action, action, action! Marches, rallies, pickets, protests, sit-ins!!!! Organizers also work citywide on major campaigns like the living wage or against racially discriminatory bank lending. Interns will be based in Oakland, San Jose, and Sacramento.
Housing will be arranged for out-of-town participants. Requirements:
Internships will extend for one month.
There are three internship periods over the summer of 2001: May 29th-June
23rd, June 25th-July 21st, and July 23rd-August 18th.
The application deadline for all sessions is April 30th.
Participants must be available to continue working in permanent positions
immediately following the internship.
No experience necessary, but a commitment to social justice is required.
Extensive training provided.
Available to work weeknights until 9:00 pm and Saturday mornings. Spanish
helpful. Interns will be paid a $1,000 stipend for the month. Women, people

The Greenlining Institute, a Multi-Ethnic Public Policy Institute located
in San Francisco, is seeking candidates for its Multiethnic Academy Fellowships
and Internships in Public Policy and Economic Development. The Academy
is a public policy and leadership training program for recent college
graduates and graduate students who are pursuing careers in the field
of public policy, urban planning, minority advocacy, and economic development.
Summer Internship applications must be received by April 1, 2001.
Fellowship applicants must be received by June 15, 2001.

Social Sciences Research and Instructional Council
25th Annual Student Research Conference
at California State University, Sacramento
Friday, May 4, 2001
The Research Conference has been held since 1976. At the conference, students from all areas of the social sciences present the results of their research to groups and peers. Paper presentation time is from 15-20 minutes; poster sessions are also permitted. Co-authored work is fine. There will be cash awards for the best papers presented.
