CHAIR'S CORNER

Greetings all. As you enjoy the remaining lazy hazy days of summer, please put one thing on your calendars: a PPA get-together on Thursday, August 29. Department students, alumni, faculty, and friends are invited for pizza and conversation from 6-7:30 p.m. at the "Alumni Grove." Alumni Grove is located at the north end of the CSUS campus between parking lot 4 and the American River (east of the Guy West Bridge). Click here for a printable campus map. Among other things, this event will offer a chance for everybody to meet our new faculty member, Miguel Ceja. Please let Suzi Byrd or me know if you plan to attend as this will help in determining how much food to purchase (one alternative- letting my kids chow down on left-over pizza for several days- is not altogether attractive to me).

Speaking of Professor Ceja: at the end of the regular Casper period there were still a handful of spots left in his new higher education elective, although we've been pleased by the enrollment in the course thus far. This promises to be an exciting class addressing such important issues as access to college for low-income students. I urge current students with room available in your schedules to consider enrolling in PPA 296I, Higher Education Policy, Thursdays from 6-8:50pm.

Let me offer one other reminder since some people seem to have missed the e-mail message on this topic: for the upcoming academic year only, my research methods core course (PPA 205) will be offered in the spring as well as the fall. So if you didn't make it into my fall section consider taking the course during the following semester.

Best wishes.

Ted Lascher
PPA Department Chair
