Thesis Idea: Grand Juries
PPA alumnus Jim Mayer (Executive Director of the well respected Little
Hoover Commission) recently contacted me about a project idea that I
believe would make for a good thesis for a current student (this is
NOT a group project proposal per se, although it's conceivable that
more than one student could work on the topic). Jim is interested in
what becomes of recommendations from county grand juries. He believes
that these citizen groups often develop thoughtful recommendations.
However, it's often neither clear what becomes of such recommendations
in the grand jury's own county, nor whether such information ever gets
shared more widely in the state. He'd like someone to investigate more
fully what becomes of such recs., and his small staff doesn't have time
to do that.
People who are interested in citizen input, governmental reform, local institutions, etc. may find this topic interesting. And while Jim wouldn't be directing the research, he would be available for consultation and discussion during the course of the project.
Send me a note or call me (916/278-4864) if this sounds like something
of
interest.
