Bob Waste spoke to the City of Sacramento Planning Academy on
October 13th concering "City Planning" which focused on the
topics of affordable housing, inclusionary zoning and the need for high
quality, high density in-fill development such as the 65th Street Transit
Village. Bob, also, wrote and published two op ed articles for the Sacramento
Bee. The first, titled "How to Handle a Million More by 2020: Region,
It's All About Housing, Tax Sharing and Open Space"printed on Sunday,
October 13th, and the second, titled " What Kind of Quality of
Life Do We want?" printed October 27th. Also, on October 18th he,
along with Rob Wassmer, attended the "Tall Order Regional Conference"
in Sacramento.
Rob Wassmer was one of four invited discussants to offer an academic
view of the movement by San Fernando Valley to secede from the city
of Los Angeles at the 10th Annual California Policy Issues Conference
of the Pat Brown Institute at CSULA on November 14, 2002. The paper
he is writing on this topic will appear in a proceedings the Institute
wil publish. Rob was also the keynote speaker on the topic of "Numbers
Don't Lie: Accurately Using Statistics and Graphs in Public Policy"
for a Senior Professional Development Seminar of the National Conference
of State Legislatures in Sacramento on October 19, 2002.
