COMMUNICATOR

July 16, 2004

The Communicator is the official department newsletter serving the students of the Graduate Programs in Public Policy and Administration at California State University, Sacramento.
CHAIR'S CORNER

I hope everyone is enjoying the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials at CSUS and other “fun in the sun.” This month’s Chair’s Corner will be short, consisting mainly of a few reminders for current students and others. Heck, this is for the PPA program so I can’t resist putting the reminders in “bullet” form (with echoes of various PPA memo assignments).

  • In case anyone missed my earlier notes, the Department has a new policy with respect to the culminating experience; the policy can be found at here.
  • Any current students who are eligible to advance to candidacy should do so, pronto; recent contacts with students have only reinforced my belief that students can get in trouble by waiting, especially if the writing proficiency requirement has not been addressed.
  • We enjoyed the recent River Cats game and other alumni chapter events this past year. Anyone with more ideas for the chapter should contact our chapter president, José Henríquez at el_gato_listo@yahoo.com.
  • And along that line, if you’re an alum and haven’t joined the alumni chapter you should strongly consider doing so. Hint, hint.
  • I will continue to be available and serving as chair through the summer, but come the beginning of the fall I will be in “hibernation” during my sabbatical while Rob Wassmer assumes Acting Chair duties.
  • We will hold a social event prior the beginning of fall classes; watch for more details.

Best wishes to everyone.
