ANNOUNCEMENTS

Commencement
PPA students' commencement ceremony is at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2004 at Hornet Stadium. Graduates should be there no later than 6:30 p.m. Please go to the University's commencement website to sign up, find out about attire, and more. The department strongly encourages those who are graduating to participate. Give your family and friends a chance to congratulate you on a job well done!

Student Research Competition
The Eighteenth Annual Student Research Competition will be held locally on Saturday, March 6, 2004. All currently registered undergraduate and graduate students are eligible. Alumni/alumnae who received their degrees in spring, summer, or fall 2003 are also eligible.

Entry forms are available at the Office of Research & Sponsored Projects (2nd floor, River Front Center, 278-7381. Up to ten CSUS student papers will be submitted to the Statewide Student Research Competition at California State University, Northridge to be held on April 30 and May 1, 2004.

Center for Collaborative Policy
The Center for Collaborative Policy will host a seminar by Dr. Barbara Gray on March 19th at 1:30PM till 3:30PM in the Oak Room at the student union. Her topic is "Understanding and Overcoming Frame-Based Barriers to Intractable Conflicts."

Seating is limited so we need RSVPs for those planning to attend and to notify folks of any changes. Please RSVP to Jodie Monaghan at the Center, 445-2079 or jmonaghan@ccp.csus.edu.

Dr. Gray's bio: "Dr. Barbara Gray is Professor of Organizational Behavior and Director of the Center for Research in Conflict and Negotiation in the Smeal College of Business at The Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Gray's research covers the following areas: negotiations, organizational change, intergroup conflict, diversity and multiparty alliances. Her research focuses on interpersonal and intergroup conflict and methods for promoting resolution of conflicts. She is the author of over 60 articles and books. Her book Collaborating: Finding Common Ground for Multiparty Problems, (Jossey-Bass, 1989) is a classic that covers alliance-building among businesses, government, labor and interest groups to solve problems. Another book, Making Sense of Intractable Environmental Conflict: Concepts and cases (Island Press, 2003) investigates intractable environmental conflicts. In addition to environmental negotiations, she has studied negotiations of joint ventures between firms in the U.S. and Peoples Republic of China and the adoption of new technology by new product teams."
