STUDENT JOBS/INTERNSHIPS

The Washington Center
The Washington Center has been awarded 40 paid internship positions for students at the Environmental Protection Agency this summer. Here is the link to the official announcement. Application deadline is March 14, 2004.

This is a great opportunity for students in many major fields who have an interest in environmental issues. They also have paid positions in other areas of the federal government as well.

Florida Legislature's Summer Internship
The Florida Legislature's Summer Internship runs for 9 -12 weeks and pays $16 per hour. Preference is for people with some graduate work; understanding of government, budgets, statistics, and microenonomics; and experience trying to present data to a generalist audience -- in short, the kinds of things the MPPA program provides. For more information go to www.oppaga.state.fl.us; a flyer is also available in the PPA Dept. office.

Economic Impact Analyst needed.
Graduate student would assist in evaluating effect on California state budget as well as 29 county budgets of In-Home Support Service (IHSS) program, a federal and state entitlement program serving 300,000 Californians who are elderly or disabled. Governor Schwartzenneger proposes eliminating 25% of this caseload. Work would be done with United Domestic Workers of America, a union inspired by Cesar Chavez, which is pioneering improved working conditions for IHSS workers. UDWA, affiliated with AFSCME and AFLCIO, expects to expand staff significantly during the 2004 year. Pay is $10 per hour. All Great Valley Fellows receive a living stipend for the duration of the 11-month fellowship, plus health, dental, and vision benefits.
