for students at the Environmental Protection Agency this summer. Here

This is a great opportunity for students in many major fields who have an interest in environmental issues. They also have paid positions in other areas of the federal government as well.
Florida
Legislature's Summer Internship
The Florida Legislature's Summer Internship runs for 9 -12 weeks and
pays $16 per hour. Preference is for people with some graduate work;
understanding of government, budgets, statistics, and microenonomics;
and experience trying to present data to a generalist audience -- in
short, the kinds of things the MPPA program provides. For more information

Economic Impact Analyst needed.
Graduate student would assist in evaluating effect on California state
budget as well as 29 county budgets of In-Home Support Service (IHSS)
program, a federal and state entitlement program serving 300,000 Californians
who are elderly or disabled. Governor Schwartzenneger proposes eliminating
25% of this caseload. Work would be done with United Domestic Workers
of America, a union inspired by Cesar Chavez, which is pioneering improved
working conditions for IHSS workers. UDWA, affiliated with AFSCME and
AFLCIO, expects to expand staff significantly during the 2004 year.

for the Future
Here is an announcement for a paid summer
internship program run by Resources for the Future, a Washington
D.C. based nonprofit organization specializing in environmental, natural
resources, and energy issues. The 10 week program is designed for "outstanding
undergraduate and graduate students," with priority given to graduate
students. Application deadline is March 15, 2004.
California's
Great Valley Fellows Program
Now accepting applications through April 9th for the Great Valley
Fellows Program which begins in September 1, 2004 and concludes in July
2005.
The Great Valley Fellows Program is an intensive, experience-based program for outstanding young professionals aspiring to positions of leadership in public service. While the program operates in the context of the public affairs arena, the core focus is about excellence. This 11-month program takes place in California's vast Central Valley with a class of 16 Fellows recruited both locally and nationwide. Each Great Valley Fellow will complete a series of four consecutive 6-8 week apprenticeships in government, private industry, nonprofit organizations, and political campaigns as well as participate in a rigorous training program for skill development in leadership, communication and personal effectiveness. All Great Valley Fellows receive a living stipend for the duration of the 11-month fellowship, plus health, dental, and vision benefits.
Qualifications:
Applicants must complete a four-year bachelor's degree before the program
commences, and candidates with additional graduate study and career
experience are highly encouraged to apply. Fellows must commit to full-time
participation during the course of the program and outside employment
and other study programs are not permitted.
Great Valley Fellows must live in the Central Valley for the duration of the program. Fellows will be assigned to a city in one of two geographic areas, the Sacramento Valley or the San Joaquin Valley, for the 11-month period.
