Workshop: Raising the Curtain on California’s 2006 Universal Health Coverage Debate
Date: November 15, 2005
Time: 8am-12 pm
Light breakfast will be served
Location: California State Association of Counties Conference Center 11th Street, between J and K Streets, Sacramento, CA
Opening Remarks: Kimberly Belshé
California Health and Human Services Secretary
Additional speakers TBA

Mark your calendars for an important discussion on the future of health coverage in California sponsored by the New America Foundation.  In recent years, state policymakers have sought to respond to the urgent problems caused by the fact that nearly 20 percent of the state's population is uninsured. The range of solutions assign substantially different roles for government, employers and individuals.

This event, with opening remarks from California Health and Human Services Secretary Kimberly Belshé, will introduce the debate anticipated in 2006. It is an opportunity to hear from proponents of all the major solutions under consideration. It will highlight interim steps to universal coverage, such as covering all children.  And it will include the views of key stakeholders such as hospitals, doctors, labor, and business.

To RSVP, email Lily Ho at ho@newamerica.net or call 916-448-5189.  If you have questions about this event, please contact Peter Harbage, the California Liaison of New America's Health Policy Program, at harbage@newamerica.net
