DIRECTOR'S CORNER
Well, we've almost made it to the end of the semester, the end of the
year, the end of the millennium (although you quantitative types may want
to keep debating whether 2000 is the first year of the new millennium,
or the last year of the old millennium!!) Here's a few suggestions for
the end of 1999 and the beginning of 2000:
1) Sign up for PPA and IA classes. Use CASPER.
Sign up early and often! Remember, the Hornet
Bookstore only orders as many copies of class texts as students
enrolled in the class as of the end of December. This invariably results
in some students not having books for the first several weeks of class.
Sign up now, and buy your books as early as possible.
2) Do all of us a favor. Don't drink and drive over the holiday
season (or any time else, for that matter). Especially PPA students
who are supposed to ANALYZE such statistics, not become one.
3) I know there is a lot of pressure this year with cramming
for finals, completing term papers and projects, and squeezing in holiday
celebrations. Remember, there is light at the end of the tunnel, and
a long semester break. Spring semester classes begin on January 26,
2000. Until then, keep on studying, finish up those papers and projects,
relax a little over the break, and come back refreshed for a great new
semester.
The only big changes that we have made for the Spring semester are in
the PPA program. In the Spring, Dr. Tim Hodson, Director of the Center
for California Studies will be teaching the PPA 260 course, Working with
Legislatures; Dr. Michael Semler will be teaching PPA/GOVT 284, Urban
Politics and Policy; and I will be teaching PPA 230, Public Budgeting
and Finance.
Happy New Year!!
