DIRECTOR'S CORNER Reading_Person

Welcome back to school! I'm glad for the chance to welcome new and continuing PPA students at CSUS. It's going to be a great and interesting year! Our first year students are an outstanding group of people. Our continuing students are so strong and focused that we had about eight students graduate last year.

There are a few things I'd like to remind you about that will, hopefully, make your semester a little easier.

  1. Please remember to sign up for a SacLink account -- or reactivate your account if you can't remember your password. As the University becomes more electronic, you will need to rely more heavily on your SacLink account to get by (let's just hope the power doesn't go out). Go to the UCCS Website for information about your account.

  2. Sign up for the PPA Bulletin, our department listproc. Go here for more information.

  3. PPA students starting their second year must contact the department office about getting some academic advising. In fact, anyone who wishes to receive academic advising should contact the department office.

Professors Cristy Jensen and Rob Wassmer will each be taking sabbaticals this year. Cristy will be gone during the fall semester and Rob during the spring. Other than the thesis course, neither of them will be teaching their regular classes. Professor Jensen will be researching higher education policy, and Professor Wassmer will be researching the impacts and policy dimensions of urban sprawl on metropolitan areas. You will no doubt benefit in both the classroom and from reading their sabbatical research next Fall and Spring. The rest of the faculty can be reached during regular office hours and by appointment. Visit the office hours page for detailed information.

Best wishes for a highly educational (and fun-filled) year,

Bob Waste
PPA Director
