Rob Wassmer, Public Policy and Administration, traveled to Boston on January 8 to present a paper on "Bidding for Business: The Efficacy of Local Incentives in a Metropolitan Area" at the meeting of the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association held in conjunction with the national meeting of U.S. economists (ASSA). In early January, Wassmer's edited book on "Readings in Urban Economics: Issues and Public Policy" was also published by Blackwell.

Dr. Cristy Jensen, Public Policy and Administration, is one of four faculty statewide recently appointed to the Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Community Service. The commissions charge is prepare the University's response to the Governor's interest in a new graduation requirement mandating community service. The committee is exploring many different strategies for encouraging community service learning activities on the part of CSU faculty and students. If you have ideas on these issues, please let Cristy know!

Dr. Jensen will be hosting six faculty from Far Eastern State University in Vladivostok and Petropavlovsk/Kamchatka for a three week period this winter/spring. They are working on a Distance Education/Business Management Curriculum and Teaching Project here at CSUS. They are scheduled to arrive February 26 and depart March 21. Please let Cristy know if you want to be a part of meeting with and /or entertaining them!
