INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
The Organization
The Financial Markets Center is a nonprofit institute that provides research and education resources to grassroots organizations, labor unions, policy makers, journalists and other groups interested in the Federal Reserve System and the financial sector. The Center produces a variety of publications, teaching tools and educational programs focused on monetary policy, financial regulation and market trends.

Internship
Opportunities Internships are available during the fall, spring and summer semesters for undergraduate and graduate students as well as recent graduates. When appropriate, internships may span more than one semester. In 1999-2000, interns will work as research assistants on a variety of projects within the Center's overall program. Responsibilities may include: data collection and analysis; literature reviews; documents and survey research; preparing reports and summaries; and general office support.

Internships may be served on a part-time or full-time basis, with a minimum time commitment of 12 hours per week for part-time interns. Interns should have an interest in and willingness to learn about monetary, financial and economic issues as they relate to public policy. Some academic background in political science, public policy, law, journalism, economics or finance may be helpful but is not a prerequisite. Applicants should have research, writing, analytical, computer and communications skills.

Compensation
$8 per hour and up, depending on need and experience.

Location
The Center is located in Loudoun County, Virginia, approximately one hour west of Washington, DC. Interns must provide their own transportation to the Center's office. Travel subsidies are available, depending on need.

1. Position Description: International Trade Development Assistant

3. Company Activities: ARFEN supplies parts and maintenance support to commercial and military aircraft operators. Major markets include Asia (Taiwan, PRC, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia) and South America (Colombia and Brazil). We are a small company with four employees. The company was formed in 1992.

4. Inter Activities Work with and under supervision of the company president to develop and execute market expansion plans, develop and improve data processing systems, and other work in support of corporate objectives.

5. Work Skills. The following skills will be utilized in the internship: a. Foreign language fluency (speaking, reading, and writing) in one of the following Chinese (Mandarin) Indonesian Spanish Portuguese b. Computer skills Microsoft Access Microsoft Excell Web page development

6. Position. The position offers flexible hours to accommodate student schedules, but we would expect at least 20 hours per week. A limited stipend is available. We would like to start this position immediately.

LEGISLATIVE INTERN
Legislative Intern for a statewide association with an office located close to the Capitol. The association sponsors and tracks legislation related to aging and long-term care issues. Students majoring in public policy or gerontology are encouraged to respond. The intern will be involved in identifying, tracking, and responding to legislation as appropriate to the association. Required internship hours are open for discussion. Please include a brief letter of interest and a short summary on your background.
