THE TOMAS RIVERA POLICY INSTITUTE (TRPI) ANNOUNCES
THE TRPI PUBLIC POLICY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
summer 1999
WHO: Two graduate students 21 years of age or older, of Latino/Hispanic
descent. Must have strong writing, verbal and analytical abilities and
an interest in public policy issues of concern to Latino communities.
English/Spanish bilingual students are encouraged to apply.
WHAT: A full-time, 10-week fellowship opportunity to work on a research
project in the area of education public policy under the supervision of
experienced TRPI senior researchers in a professional, nonprofit, nonpartisan
setting.
WHERE: The Tomas Rivera Policy Institute, a nationally recognized think
tank on Latino issues, located at The Claremont Colleges in Claremont,
California.
WHEN: From Monday, June 7 through Friday, August 13, 1999.
WHY: * Learn and improve research skills
* Gain hands-on research experience using various investigative methods
* Study issues of significance to Latinos in the U.S.
* Earn a $4,000 Stipend (does not include housing or transportation)

- *Cover letter with name, mailing address, fax, phone, and e-mail address.
Include a brief personal statement describing your interest in the program
and how you would like to contribute.
- *Photocopy of transcripts which show your current graduate standing
and GPA.
- *One letter of recommendation from a faculty member familiar with your
academic work.
- *Writing sample of four pages or less, which may be taken from your
existing academic work.

Application is extended to any upper division or graduate student enrolled
full-time in an accredited California post-secondary educational institution
whose educational career goals clearly coincide with Emily's interest
in communicating an dinterpreting nature's wonder.
Major: Environmental protection, forestry, wildlife and fisheries
biology, parks and recreation, park management, environmental law and
public policy, environmental art, and California history are encouraged
to apply.
