History
The Solano Community College Educational Foundation was created as a not-for-profit corporation by local residents in 1985. Its purpose is to promote the general welfare of Solano Community College in the following manner:

  1. Solicit, raise and distribute monies, properties, and other assets for the construction of buildings, purchase of equipment and other worthy needs.
  2. Raise funds for long term capital improvements, to support educational excellence and to provide programs of special service to the community.

Qualities: The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following qualities:
Intelligence; maturity; experience working in a professional office; self-directed; an outgoing, enthusiastic and creative nature; familiarity with California Higher Education system and a willingness to explore the use of mass media technologies in non-profit development and fundraising.

EPS SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM--1999

Economic & Planning Systems (EPS) is a leading land economics consulting firm experienced in the full spectrum of services related to real estate development, the financing of public infrastructure, land use and conservation planning, and government organization. EPS has offices in Sacramento and Berkeley, and serves a variety of public and private sector clients throughout the western United States.

EPS anticipates that one internship position will be available in the Sacramento office during Summer 1999. This temporary position will last from two to three months during June, July, and August. It will be a full-time paid position. Benefits are not offered with the summer internship position. Wage is commensurate with experience.

Summer intern will work under the direction of project managers and may assist in analyses related to real estate feasibility, fiscal impacts, public finance, and land use policy, revitalization/redevelopment, and regional economic development. The position provides a good opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of land economics. It will provide professional development in a stimulation environment for the individual with the rights skills and an interest in the interplay between economics and public policy in the development of urban systems.

The EPS summer internship is targeted to minorities, both men and women, in graduate degree programs such as business, planning, public policy, and economics or with BAs in the same fields, but all candidates are welcome to apply.

REQUIREMENTS
EPS is looking for current graduate students or individuals with a Bachelor's degree in Planning, Economics, Public Policy, Urban Studies, Business, or a related field. Facility in microcomputer applications (e.g. Excel, Lotus, Dbase, word processing) and strong analytical and writing skills are essential.

the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency was established by a joint powers agreement between the City and County of Sacramento to undertake economic development, redevelopment, and housing activities on their behalf.

The Agency is currently coordinating activities within ten redevelopment areas. The Agency is a key player in major economic development activities including the Stockton/Broadway supermarket project, Del Paso Boulevard commercial revitalization, Marysville Boulevard Urban Design Plan, and military base reuse throughout the area. Other current projects include Del Paso Heights Beautification Contests and Grand Opening events. On-going activities include the marketing of commercial/housing development loan and grant programs, recruitment of communicate advisory committee members, and capital improvement projects throughout the City and County.

The Agency offers a wide range of hands-on experience in a fast-paced deadline oriented office. Internship projects may include work on planning/policy documents, economic development projects, communicate development projects, commercial/housing loans/grants, capital improvements projects, community events, detailed data collection and analysis, and organizing complex community activities. Interns will also assist in the general office support activities.

POSITIONS AVAILABLE:

GAO is hiring graduate and undergraduate students to assist the agency's staff in responding to congressional requests by performing research; determining information needs; collecting information through record searches, automated data retrieval, interviewing, and questionnaires; analyzing information and formulating recommendations; and writing reports and briefings.

Intern appointments are limited to 16 weeks. Appointments may be paid or non-paid (volunteer).

QUALIFICATIONS:

Generally, students with majors or course work in accounting, business administration, public policy/administration, computer science, management information systems, economics, or the social sciences are most likely to be successful candidates for the GAO internship program. Students with other majors and course work will also be considered.

COMPENSATION:

Paid student interns are appointed at the GS-4, 5, 7, or 9 levels depending on the number of semester hours or quarter hours completed when selected. Salaries range from about $1,400 at the GS-4 level to about $2,500 per month at the GS-9 level.

PINOLE REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY
REDEVELOPMENT INTERNSHIP

The City of Pinole Redevelopment Agency invites applicants for two Redevelopment Intern positions in the Community Development Department. The City is seeking graduate student interns to provide assistance with a range of redevelopment projects. The following programs and projects are available for participation and/or development. The internships are traditionally full-time during the summer and part-time through the following spring.

PROGRESS, Agency Newsletter
Manage the Agency's bi-annual newsletter that is produced in cooperation with the local high school.

New Development
Provide assistance to various development projects throughout the City, including a proposed downtown mixed-use building and a proposed affordable housing complex.

Community Cleanup/Beautification
Assist with programs that utilize community groups to remove blight from the Redevelopment Project Area.

Marketing/Events
Help develop and implement marketing programs and special events and promotions for the historic Old Town area. Past activities have included a "Shop Old Town" advertising campaign, "Fall in Love with Old Town" contest, and "Taste of Old Town" event.

Residential rehabilitation Program and Commercial Rehabilitation Program
Assist with allocating loans and grants for the improvement of single family homes, apartments, and commercial structures throughout the Redevelopment Project Area; assist with loan portfolio management of the $2.1 million invested by the Agency to date.

First Time Home Buyers
Assist with processing loans to low and moderate income households in the first time purchase of a home; assist in developing new loan program targeted for city personnel.

Youth Programs
Manage projects that involve local youth in evening activities and other beneficial programs.

The city of Pinole has worked with previous interns on professional reports and master's theses; many of the City's projects are suitable for development as academic projects. City interns work under minimal supervision, present their own staff reports to the Planning Commission and City council, and gain valuable experience in project management and redevelopment practice. Previous interns have gone onto full-time employment with, among other agencies, the City of Pleasanton, City of Oakland, City of San Jose, and City of Pinole. The City of Pinole, population 18,000, is located on San Pablo, 15 minutes from Berkeley and 45 minutes form Davis. Pinole's Redevelopment Agency has an annual budget of $4.5 million.

Salary: $12-14/hour, DOQ

Hours: 40 hours/week through Summer 1999, 16-20 hours (flex)/week through Spring 00
