A fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music since 1964, the School of Music at Sacramento State offers the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music, and Master of Music degrees, as well as the teaching credential for the state of California.

Faculty and students come from across the country and around the world to teach and to study, and to open doors to a broad spectrum of artistic and intellectual pursuits.

A great music education begins with a great faculty. The School of Music at California State University, Sacramento employs over 50 full and part-time faculty and staff. With diverse backgrounds from all over the country and the world, our faculty and staff have the experience and talent to help you achieve the highest degree possible in your music education.

As a student at Sacramento State, you will study one-on-one with real experts on your voice or instrument. Our faculty of professional musicians are distinguished artists and scholars who make teaching their top priority. Most are also active performers in our community and around the world, and have a wealth of professional contacts to help broaden your education even further.

Vocal Jazz Ensembles

Winner of 12 student Down Beat music awards, the vocal jazz program at Sacramento State is under the direction of Gaw Vang-Williams. There are two advanced groups, Jazz Singers and C-Sus, which are formed by audition. The sounds of Sac State Vocal Jazz are influenced by the great vocal jazz groups of the past and present: The Hi-Lo's, Singers Unlimited, Take 6, New York Voices, The Real Group, Manhattan Transfer and others. The groups will perform two concerts in the fall: Friday, October 28 and Friday, December 2, both at 7:00 p.m.
