Welcome to Sac State!

The undergraduate music major at Sacramento State is a rigorous four-year course of study with a traditional conservatory curriculum, providing classical or jazz training. We offer the Bachelor of Arts degree as well as the Bachelor of Music (jazz, music education, performance, or theory/composition concentrations). All of our undergraduate degree concentrations have performance as a foundation. In addition to a Sac State application, all undergraduate applicants must complete an entrance audition.

The School of Music also offers the Master of Music degree (conducting, composition, or performance concentrations). **Graduate applicants should consult the University Catalog (click on the "Graduate" tab) and Graduate Studies office for application procedures. An audition is required for Graduate applicants to the Performance and the Post Master's Performer's Certificate concentrations.

Here are the steps to becoming an undergraduate music major at Sac State:

NOTE: A high quality online video will be accepted for most audition periods when distance is a factor. Recorded Auditions will not be accepted for Early Fall Auditions. Auditions may be uploaded to YouTube or Google Drive, and the corresponding URL listed on the online audition application. Recorded auditions must include the recommended audition repertoire. The level of professionalism used in the preparation of your video will have a substantial effect on the outcome of your audition. Please submit the highest quality recording possible.
