Welcome to Sac State!
The undergraduate music major at Sacramento State is a rigorous four-year course of study with a traditional conservatory curriculum, providing classical or jazz training. We offer the Bachelor of Arts degree as well as the Bachelor of Music (jazz, music education, performance, or theory/composition concentrations). All of our undergraduate degree concentrations have performance as a foundation. In addition to a Sac State application, all Undergraduate applicants must complete an entrance audition.
Here are the steps to becoming an undergraduate music major at Sac State:
- Complete a Sac State admission application.
- Schedule your Entry Level Math (ELM) and English Placement Tests (EPT) through the Testing Center (unless you are exempt; read more about this here). These exams must be taken before May 1 preceding your Fall entrance to Sac State.
- Select your audition repertoire from the Audition Repertoire page.
- Complete an audition application. (See available audition dates at right)
NOTE: A high quality online video will be accepted for most auditon periods when distance is a factor. Recorded Auditions will not be accepted for Early Fall Auditions. Auditions may be uploaded to YouTube, and the corresponding URL listed on the online audition application. Recorded auditions must include the recommended audition repertoire. The level of professionalism used in the preparation of your video will have a substantial effect on the outcome of your audition. Please submit the highest quality recording possible. If you are accepted to the School of Music:
