SYMPHONIC WIND ENSEMBLE
Open to any Sacramento State student by audition.
Desired instrumentation = 5 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 bassoons, 8 clarinets, 2 bass clarinets, 4 saxophones, 4 horns, 6 trumpets, 4 trombones, 2 euphoniums, 2 tubas, 1 string bass, 5 percussion, 1 piano
CONCERT BAND
Open to any Sacramento State student with experience. Music Majors must audition. Desired instrumentation = approximately same as above (larger preferred)
Who can audition?
Any Sac State student with music experience can audition. Music majors are required to audition. Placements (ensemble, chair) are determined by audition.
What happens during an audition?
Each audition lasts about 6 minutes. Players prepare 2-4 minutes of music, usually something slow/lyrical and something fast/ technical. You will also be asked to play a 2-octave (or more) chromatic scale, slurred ascending and articulated descending, plus sight-read. Some applied teachers have assigned specific audition pieces. If a music major, check with your teacher.
When do Sac State wind bands rehearse?
Symphonic Wind Ensemble: Monday/Wednesday, 12 Noon – 1:50PM.
Concert Band: Monday/Wednesday, 2:00PM – 3:20.
