In some cases, studio faculty have assigned certain pieces/excerpts as audition material. Check with your applied teacher to see if that is the case. If not, each audition should consist of the following:

  1. a 2 octave chromatic scale ascending (slurred) and descending (tongued), one breath each way;
  2. (60 seconds) a prepared solo/etude displaying slow, sustained playing to show beauty of tone, expression and tuning;
  3. (60 seconds) a prepared solo/etude displaying rapid, slurred and articulated music to show technique, time and tonguing;
  4. sight reading.
