Camerata Capistrano

Camerata Capistrano, our student Baroque ensemble, will present their spring concert on Sunday, May 10 at 7:00pm in Capistrano Hall 151.

The ensemble's tenth concert together coincides with their tenth concerto performance---this time it is J.S. Bach's Double Concerto in C-minor, featuring George Hayes, violin, and Noah Ryan, oboe.

The group will be joined by their director, Dr. Lorna Peters, for "La Sultane" by Francois Couperin. This work, which sports two independent bass parts played by cellists Hans Hoffer and Tim Stanley, was conceived on an imperialistic scale, its texture rich with sensual harmonies.

The concert also includes the virtuosic string Concerti Grossi by English composer Charles Avison. Domenico Scarlatti's solo keyboard sonatas, which inspired Avison's Concerti, will be performed by harpsichordists Samantha Arrasmith, Robert Brinzer and Haruko Haitani-Thomas.
