Ben Glovinsky grew up and received much of his musical training in St. Louis, where he attended Washington University as a music major, studying composition, oboe, piano, and conducting. He was awarded a Woodrow Wilson fellowship for graduate study at Stanford University, and completed his Master of Arts degree in 1965. Ben was appointed to the music faculty at CSUS the same year.

From 1966-1978 he was also principal oboist of the Sacramento Symphony, and conducted the Sacramento Youth Symphony from 1971-1977. He has received commissions for compositions from the Sacramento Symphony, the Sacramento Jewish Community Choir, the California Association of Professional Music Teachers, the Sacramento Saturday Club, and CSUS (for Jubileo, written for the 50th Anniversary of the University).
