Kerry Marsh directs the three vocal jazz ensembles at Sacramento State, teaches jazz arranging, and oversees the jazz voice degree program. Marsh earned a B.M.E. in Music Education from the University of Kansas in 2000 and a M.M. in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas in 2003.
Under Marsh's direction since 2003, the Sac State vocal jazz ensembles have earned four Down Beat Student Music Awards (2005-06), two invitations to perform at annual conferences of the International Association for Jazz Education (2005, 2006), and a "Best in Sacramento" award from Sacramento Magazine in 2006.
Kerry is an active and sought-after composer and arranger of music for vocal jazz and other ensembles. Marsh was the recipient of a 2003 Down Beat Magazine Student Music Award for "Best College Arrangement" for his arrangement of "Impressions." Many of his charts are available through UNC Jazz Press and Sound Music Productions, and are featured on his website, www.kerrymarsh.com.
Marsh works as a clinician and adjudicator for vocal jazz festivals and workshops nationwide. He directed and organized the first CSU All-Star Vocal Jazz Ensemble in Fresno, CA , and has been the director of both the California and Illinois High School All-State Vocal Jazz Ensembles.
