Vox 2 is the intermediate-level vocal jazz ensemble in the Sacramento State Vocal Jazz Ensemble Program. In 2008-09, this select group is comprised of seven singers, specializing in the mixed group small ensemble sound and employing the use of student assistant directors to further our students' experiences. In addition to working on putting together a great set of music for performance, Vox 2 rehearsals focus on the fundamentals of vocal group performance: unity (of tone, diction, dynamics, and other aspects), intonation, time-feel, improvisation, storytelling, and style. Advanced jazz harmonies, intricate rhythms, improvisation, and interaction with a rhythm section are key elements of the experience, and the standard for performance is set high. Auditions for Vox 2 take place at the start of every semester.
