Prayer Breakfast continues tradition of remembrance, inspiration

MLK Jr.Sacramento State will host the 24th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Prayer Breakfast on Monday, Jan. 15 at 8 a.m. in the University Union Ballroom.

The event, “God’s Promises: Looking Beyond the Dream,” is presented by the Northern District Baptist Association Women’s Auxiliary. The keynote speaker will be Rev. Dr. Claybon Lea, Jr., pastor of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Fairfield and vice-president-at-large of the California State Baptist Convention.

The prayer breakfast, with its roots in the earliest years of the civil rights movement, is a traditional opener to Sacramento’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day activities. Sacramento State welcomed Dr. King to the campus Oct. 16, 1967, where he addressed more than 7,000 faculty, staff, students and community members with his inspiring words and vision of peace.

Admission is $22 for adults and $17 for children 12 and under. Tickets are available at the Sacramento State ticket office at (916) 278-4323 or visit Tickets.com. For more information about the event, contact Kim Harrington at (916) 278-6327.
