Saturday Club celebrates CSUS and more
than 100 years of melodies on Sunday
One-hundred-and-nine years ago a group
of musicians came together to form the Sacramento Saturday
Club Concert to provide the community access to world-class
performances and scholarships to local college students. This
year, the club is performing a free concert to honor the many
contributions made by California State University, Sacramento's
professors to the organization.
The concert is at 3 p.m., Jan. 20 in the Music Recital Hall
in Capistrano Hall. The concert features Wallace Rushkin,
Susan Lamb Cook, Rejean Anderson and Margaret Rushkin performing
David Popper's requiem for cello and piano; Linda Adam performing
four songs by Gabriel Foure; Barbara Wieman performing works
by Debussy, Chopin and Bllade; and soprano Miriam Bonchato
accompanied by Marion O'Leary.
"Over the years, the CSUS professors have really helped
run the club, providing talent and helping raise funds for
the many scholarships we provide. This is a memorial to those
professors," says Wallace Rushkin, club president and
former CSUS cello professor.
