Sacramento State’s nationally accredited Children’s Center was selected by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell for today’s announcement of the availability of a new publication, Infant/Toddler Learning and Development Program Guidelines. The publication is aimed at center-based and family early childhood care programs.

“We were honored that Superintendent O’Connell chose our Children’s Center to make this announcement,” says Denise Wessels, director of the Sacramento State ASI Children’s Center. “We feel it’s a validation of our accreditation by the NAEYC, as well as our commitment to reaching the highest professional standards.”

The National Association for the Education of Young Children, the nation’s largest organization for early childhood educators, awarded accreditation to the University’s Children’s Center after an on-site visit and a national panel review of all the program’s quality criteria. A set of professional standards for early childhood services also had to be met, and the facility committed to ongoing evaluation and improvement. Only 7 percent of children’s centers nationwide receive accreditation from the NAEYC.

“Because of this accreditation, the Children’s Center has become a leader in a national effort to raise the quality of early childhood education,” Wessels says.
