Award-winning indie bands to play free concert

Get Back Loretta is one of three bands scheduled to perform in a free concert Feb. 7. Get Back Loretta is one of three bands scheduled to perform in a free concert Feb. 7.

The University Union’s UNIQUE Programs has three up-and-coming bands lined up to perform in a free indie-rock/electro concert at Sacramento State’s University Union Ballroom 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 7.

Scheduled to perform are San Francisco’s Music for Animals and The Frail, and San Diego’s Get Back Loretta. Of the three bands, two have been recognized with awards in their home towns.

Get Back Loretta is an indie-rock band that formed in 2004 and won San Diego’s Music Awards’ “Best New Artist” in 2005 and “Best Pop Album” and “Best Pop” in 2007. Music for Animals, which also formed in 2004, quickly made a name for itself after winning a Battle of the Bands in San Francisco and landing rotation on numerous college radio stations. The Frail, also a San Francisco band, is a unique musical project that bases its sound on electronic technology.

UNIQUE Programs is a student volunteer organization that puts together everything from concerts and comedy shows to movie nights and lectures.

“UNIQUE provides entertainment for students that they can afford,” Zenia Diokno, UNIQUE Programs advisor says. “It also provides opportunities for students to participate in something and get to know other students.”

For more information on the event, contact the University Union information desk at (916) 278-6997. For media assistance, contact the Sacramento State Public Affairs office at (916) 278-6156.
